Slovenia's Regional Development Strategy 2026–2050 has been adopted

During their meeting on 13 March 2026, the members of the National Assembly approved the Regional Development Strategy of Slovenia for the period 2026–2050. This document marks a significant shift towards balanced national development, moving away from centralisation. The strategy's primary objective is to ensure a high quality of life in all regions, with residents having access to jobs with higher added value and essential services as close to home as possible. As a central development document, the strategy introduces a new polycentric development model. Focusing on economic transformation, regional resilience, quality of life and governance, it aims to reduce regional disparities and strengthen regional centres. Dr Damjan Kavaš, Director of the Institute for Economic Research, contributed to the preparation and drafting of the strategy.
