On Friday 9 October 2026, the results of the targeted research project The status and development of the research career system in Slovenia in light of the Recommendations of the EU Council and the OECD, carried out by the Center for diplomatic, international economic and legal studies and the Institute for the Economic Research, were presented at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
As part of the event, Klemen Koman from the IER presented the results of an international comparison of researchers' career systems in five European countries—Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, and Croatia—as well as key findings regarding their characteristics, challenges, and best practices. Dr. Boštjan Udovič from the Faculty of Social Sciences presented the results of a qualitative study conducted among decision-makers and directors of Slovenian public research institutions. This study provided more detailed insights into the state of research careers in Slovenia and the challenges they face. Several key starting points for formulating recommendations for the further development of the career system for researchers in Slovenia were also presented for the first time on this occasion. These are based on findings from all previous phases of the project.
