ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Environment and Energy field contributes to addressing the challenges of sustainable development, including the valuation of natural assets, cost-benefit assessments of environmental policies, efforts to promote the creation of green technologies and reliable energy systems, and addressing the just transition to a low-carbon society.

We conduct basic and applied research on topics of national and global importance, and some of our more recent notable achievements include:

  • cooperation in the preparation of a comprehensive national energy and climate plan,
  • development of a general equilibrium model to assess the impacts of greenhouse gas emission reduction policies,
  • preparation of the definition of energy poverty,
  • cooperation in the preparation of a proposal for a strategy and plan for the greening of public educational and research infrastructure and its expert review,
  • proposing indicators to monitor the effectiveness of the transition to a low-carbon circular economy,
  • evaluation of landscape and natural assets, including biodiversity,
  • evaluating agri-environmental policy measures,
  • publication of scientific research papers in esteemed international journals, such as Applied Energy, Energy Policy, Sustainable Development, Journal of Cleaner Production, Resources, Conservation & Recycling, Ecological Indicators, Ecological Economics and Land use Policy.
