IER at the TRAKR workshop in Neuchâtel

On 16 and 17 April 2026, representatives from the Institute for Economic Research attended a TRAKR network workshop in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The network operates as part of The RSA Research Network on Transformative Knowledge Regions (TRAKR)initiative, which is supported by the Regional Studies Association (RSA) and explores the transition from “knowledge-based” to “transformative knowledge regions.”

The workshop, titled 'The Policy Dimensions of Transformative Knowledge Regions' , aimed to explore the role of policy in transforming regional knowledge ecosystems within the context of sustainable transitions.

The programme included presentations of research papers, as well as discussions between partners and associated experts. Particular emphasis was placed on policies and their impact on transformative processes in the regions. During the third session, Dr Damjan Kavaš presented the paper TRAKR and the reorientation of regional policy , which addressed the implications for regional policy formulation.

As this was one of the TRAKR network’s final meetings, much of the discussion focused on future collaboration. Participants emphasised the importance of maintaining and building on the professional connections that have been established to develop future joint research contributions and project proposals.

Participation in the workshop strengthened the institute’s international presence further and contributed to the exchange of knowledge in the fields of regional policies and transformative innovations.
