This is because artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important for research, analytical, and support work at the institute. Particular emphasis was placed on how artificial intelligence can support research, improve access to information and enhance the efficiency of everyday processes, while maintaining research integrity, data security and confidentiality.

The discussion also opened up broader questions about the future role of artificial intelligence at the IER, including the relationship between the possible development of in-house solutions and the use of external solutions, the importance of knowledge, and the need to jointly develop approaches tailored to the specific research environment. The members of the newly established group, comprising a total of 15 researchers, agreed that artificial intelligence is not a substitute for research work, but rather a tool to support and enhance it.

The establishment of the working group represents the first step towards more systematic, coordinated, and responsible approach to artificial intelligence at the IER.
